Where to Watch the Sunset on Paxos: Erimitis and Plani

Gaios, Loggos and Lakka all face east, towards the mainland, so the sun sets behind them. For the sunset over the open Ionian, you head west, where the island ends in tall white cliffs.

Two places stand out, both reachable by car and a short or steep walk.

1. Erimitis

Erimitis is the sunset spot on Paxos: tall white cliffs above a pebble beach formed by a landslide in the late 2000s, which turn orange in the evening light and reflect in the turquoise sea.

The best view is from the clifftop. The beach itself is a steep 15-minute walk down a dirt road and path with rocky steps at the end, so only go down if you'll be back up before dark.

Good to know: Parking at the end of the track is very limited; many people walk in from Magazia.

2. Plani

Lakka and the north

At the north-western tip, just west of Lakka's lighthouse, Plani is a wild stretch of large pebbles and flat rock at the end of a dirt road from Lakka. It's one of the few west-coast beaches you can reach by car.

It isn't really a swimming beach, but it's a quiet place to watch the sun go down over the open sea.

Good to know: The track is rough: many people walk the last part.
