The White-Pebble Coves of Paxos' East Coast, from Lakka to Loggos

Paxos' east coast faces the mainland and is lined with small coves of white pebbles that turn the water turquoise. It's the sheltered side of the island when the summer northwesterly blows.

From north to south, here are six of them, all a short walk from the road.

1. Lakkos

Lakka and the north

About halfway between Lakka and Loggos, Lakkos is a small pebble bay enclosed by low white cliffs and pine trees, a short walk from where you park.

Good to know: No facilities: bring water and shade.

2. Monodendri

East coast (Loggos)

About 1 km north of Loggos, Monodendri is the island's most organised and fashionable beach: big pebbles, crystal-clear water, beach bars with sunbeds, tavernas and a watersports school in high season. It has easy road access and parking, so it's also among the busiest.

Good to know: Come early in August, when the car park and sunbeds fill up.

3. Levrechio

East coast (Loggos)

Five minutes' walk south of Loggos, Levrechio is a small white-pebble beach with a taverna and clear water that gets deep quickly, which suits swimmers.

Good to know: Combine a swim with lunch or a drink in Loggos harbour.

4. Marmari

Just south of Levrechio, Marmari is a quiet, unorganised pebble cove with shady trees along the shore, about 750 m from Loggos. Bring water and food.

Good to know: The trees give natural shade, rare on Paxos beaches.

5. Kipos

East coast (Loggos)

Right next to Marmari, Kipos is the second of the two secluded bays here: small, pebbly and calm.

Good to know: If Marmari has people, Kipos often doesn't.

One of the largest beaches on Paxos, Kipiadi is a long sweep of pebbles and deep blue water in a protected gulf surrounded by greenery, reached by a steep 5–7 minute path from the road. There are no facilities, and boats like to anchor off it.

Good to know: Sheltered from most winds: a good choice on a breezy day.
