Portelo beach guide
Portelo is Mathraki's only sandy beach: a long stretch on the east coast, close to the harbour at Plakes, with shallow, crystal-clear water and no sunbeds or bars. You reach it on the island's one asphalt road or on foot from Plakes.
Mathraki is the smallest of the three islands, green and crossed by footpaths, and very few people live there year-round. The ferry from Corfu Town takes about three hours and twenty minutes, calling at Ereikoussa first, and day cruises run from Agios Stefanos on Corfu's northwest coast.
