Paleokastritsa beach guide
Paleokastritsa is a cluster of about six small coves of sand and pebbles around a wooded headland on the northwest coast, crowned by the Theotokos monastery. The main beach, Agios Spyridon, is a small U-shaped bay in the middle of the resort with clear, calm water.
The sea here is noticeably cooler than on the east coast, even in midsummer, and very clear. Boat trips to the sea caves around the bay leave from the little harbour; go in the morning, when the sea is usually calmer. Sunbeds, tavernas and boat hire are right on the beaches.
It's about 23–25 km from Corfu Town, a 35–45 minute drive, and buses run from the town. The coves are small and get crowded quickly in July and August, and parking is limited, so arrive early.
