Myrtiotissa beach guide
Myrtiotissa is a small beach of fine golden sand under steep, wooded cliffs between Glyfada and Vatos, on the west coast. Lawrence Durrell made it famous in Prospero's Cell, praising it as perhaps the loveliest beach in the world. The seabed is rocky in places and the water very clear, good for snorkelling.
It's reached only by a steep path down from the road above, or by boat, and that has kept it largely unspoiled. There are no hotels or restaurants on the beach, so bring water and food. The sand has shrunk over the years, and in summer the space fills up quickly.
Myrtiotissa has long been known as Corfu's unofficial naturist beach, and nudity is common.

About Myrtiotissa
- Is Myrtiotissa a sandy beach?
- Yes, Myrtiotissa is a sandy beach. Facilities: unspoiled nature.
- Is it easy to park at Myrtiotissa?
- Roadside parking. Spaces are limited and fill up early in summer, so arrive before 10:00 or come by scooter or bus. It's a 15 minute walk from the road, and the last stretch is a dirt track.
- When is Myrtiotissa least crowded?
- It gets busy around midday in July and August; mornings and late afternoons are calmer. Outside June–September it's quiet all day.
- Which wind is best for swimming at Myrtiotissa?
- The beach faces west, so it's calmest when the wind blows from the east and gets waves when it blows from the west. The summer maistros, a northwesterly that picks up in the afternoon, often makes it choppy, so mornings are best.
