Pelekas (Kontogialos) beach guide

Kontogialos, usually called Pelekas Beach, is a wide sandy beach on the west coast below the hilltop village of Pelekas. The seabed slopes gently, so it's easy for swimming, and the beach faces the sunset.

It's an organised beach, with sunbeds and umbrellas, beach bars, showers, and pedalo and watersports hire. Olive groves run down the hillside behind it.

Pelekas is about 13 km from Corfu Town, a 25–30 minute drive, and the road down from the village to the beach is steep and narrow. Before or after a swim, the Kaiser's Throne lookout above the village is worth the detour: Kaiser Wilhelm II, who owned the Achilleion palace, used to come up here to watch the sun set.
